A lot of emphasis is placed on computer software, and rightfully so. Software represents the cutting edge of the computer world and, lets be honest, its just cool. But not so much attention is given to the hardware that actually produces the end product. Here, we take another look at the often unappreciated players in the computer world, printer hardware.

Computer hardware-Inkjet printer

Perhaps the most common computer printer is  the inkjet printer. The technology behind these computer printers can be traced back to the 1800s and can be found in homes, office and publishing companies. Inkjet printers use electronic charges and static to propel microscopic droplets of ink from a small reservoir through a micro-filter. In short, the micro-filter, a  miniature mechanism foind within the printer cartridge, represents the genius o this type of computer printer. The major challenge of  an inkjet printer is not the tiny hardware, but the difficulty in finding an ink that is suited for the complex jet mechanism.

Computer hardware-Inkjet printer pros and cons
Inkjet computer printers have a wide range of advantages. Inkjet printers can produce a highly detailed image and are compatible with photo printing software, meaning you could even print near photo quality prints with the right combination of ink and photo paper. Another clear advantage, when compared to dot matrix printers in particular is the fact that inkjet printers are much quieter.

On the other hand, many people criticize computer printers on account of their cost. While many companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Canon produce great inkjet computer printers for less than $200, its the fundamental business model that causes a stir. Much like razors, which are inexpensive, the cost of the replacement can be quite costly. Some consumer advocates argue that the inkjet printer cartridge is designed to be nearly impossible for the user to refill as a low-cost alternative. Additionally, the cartridge itself can mislead the computer into reporting the ink cartridge as empty before it really is.
