From chick flicks to buddy-cop movies, Hollywood has something for everyone. The interaction between man and machine might have begun in 1927 with Fritz Lange’s Metrpolis but it continues to today.

Computer Movies

Hollywood movies have been featuring computers for years and here is a list of some of the last generation’s most popular computer themed movies.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes is a 1969 Disney film starring Kurt Russel. In this computer-themed film, Russel playing a college student, has his brain replaced by a computer following a freak accident.

The iconic 1982 film Tron, stars Jeff Bridges as a computer programmer attempting to hack into the mainframe of a rival company. Soon the character is transported into a computer network where software programs do battle.

War Games (1983)  starring Matthew Broderick as  software whiz-kid who hacks a government nuclear simulation computer system nearly triggering World War Three.

Maybe the most successful computer movie franchise would be the Matrrix trilogy (1990-2003). In this apocalyptic flick, Keanu Reeves is a software hacker named Neo who find himself thrust into a war between computer/machine overlords and their human prey.

You’ve Got Mail (1998) stars Tom Hanks as a small bookstore owner and Meg Ryan as a corporate villain trying to take Hank’s shop. Computers bring the two together via an a case of mistaken identities and romance follows.

Office Space is a 1999 comedy directed by Mike Judge. In tbis film three unhappy employees at a computer technology company devise a software program to skim money from the company. This film is known for a famous scene (bad language)of technology abuse.

The Social Network (2010) is a highly successful film starring as Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mike Zuckerberg. This film revolves around the time Zuckerberg spent as a software developing student at Harvard.
