But what about the unsung heroes of the computer world? What about the hardware that accounts for about 90% of human to computer interaction? Lets hear it for the mouse and they keyboard?
Computer Keyboard
Neglected, abused, covered with spilled coffee and breadcrumbs, it is the unappreciated computer keyboard that account for the vast majority of human to computer interaction. The story behind this workhorse of the computer world is not glamorous either.
The modern keyboard is simply a descendant of the typewriter that was pateneted in 1868. In the meantime, the keyboard’s claim to fame has not been its ability to develop, rather its ability to remain consistent. However, modern keyboards do offer flexibility. They come in a variety of languages and set-ups and, once you learn them , computer keyboard shortcut keys are a lifesaver. Besides, where would you be without Ctrl+Alt+Delete?
Computer Mouse
Hardware facilitate human computer interface began to take shape in the 1950. At this time the trackball existed, which by the 1970s had developed into the computer mouse. Mouses operate on a simple system of x and y coordinates to plot a location on a flat plane, this works perfectly as a computer monitor exists on a flat plane as well. Indispensable for computer gaming, the mouse allows a first person shooter to circle strafe and a web designer to maximize their use of Dreamweaver. Today mouses come in many varieties wireless, optical, Apple mouses and mouses optimized for gaming or laptops.
