Sony Vaio laptops May 21, 2011
Posted by martin in : General , trackbackUsually its a tug of war between Mac users and those who prefer PCs. Mac users swear their computers crash less, are better for web design and and PC users saying that all the good software is for PC and Mac users are nothing more than pretentious hipsters. But what about the Sony Vaio laptop? They have a slick design like a Mic and run Windows software like a PC, but we seldom hear anyone sticking up for them.
Sony VAIO laptops
Vaio is a brand of laptops made by Japanese technology giant Sony. VAIO originally stood for Video Audio Integrated Operation but was switched to Video Audio Intelligence Organizer in 2008. Sony had removed itself from the laptop computer market around 2000, but the VAIO represents Sony’s return to the laptop computer market. Sony likes to present the VAIO as primarily an multimedia computer with excellent graphics and sound.
VAIO versus other laptops
There is not a lot that sets the VAIO apart from other laptops. The VAIO laptop typically uses the Windows operating systems and runs the usual range of Microsoft software. One thing is that in 2005, Sony stopped shipping recovery disks with the sale of a new VAIO laptop. Now, rather than using restore software, VAIOs have a built in partition so can restore a problem computer without having to use software. As far as hardware, Sony lives up to its reputation as a technology leader by incorporating a stronger battery and brighter, more vivid screen into their VAIOs.
VAIO laptop cons
On the bad side, Sony has been accused of bundling laptops with unnecessary software. Called bloatware, this large software package is meant to improve ease of use and accessibility for the computer user, but in truth, is considered overkill by many computer users. Also, some versions of the VAIO have had problems with a malfunctioning fan, leading to excessive heat produced by the running of the hardware. This has resulted in some cases of the plastic casing melting or warping.
